We will be working on our senior papers primarily using Google Docs. This will be the most effective way to turn in each step your big assignment and the quickest way to get feedback from Ms. V. Please make sure that you are using your SCHOOL Gmail account to access these documents. In fact, ONLY information sent from your studentfirst.studentlast@milwaukeecollegiateacademy.org accounts will be accepted. Similarly, in college, your professors will expect correspondence from your name@awesomecollege.edu accounts.

Step 1. Picking a topic

Your research paper will be on a topic of your choice in the criminal/justice fields. Below I have provided a list of topics that may be of interest to you. Additionally, you may be interested in a topic that is not on the list below. Please remember that you will be expected to find a number of sources to help support your thesis statement. Depending on the topic, resources and supporting documents may be limited which will have an overall negative impact on your paper. Use this week to really see what kind of information you can find on a topic before committing.

Potential Topics:
- police brutality (Milwaukee, South Carolina, Ferguson, etc.)
Man who shot S.C. cell phone video speaks out
- death penalty (pro, con, exoneration, banning, limitations)
What Justice Department Finds Investigating City Police
- juveniles in adult court (pro, con, limitations, treatment)
What Happens When We Send Minors To Adult Prisons
- distinguishing hate crimes (Sikh temple, racism, LGBTQ issues)

- prison industrial complex (privatization, overcrowding, understaffing)
Mass Incarceration in the US Visually Cartoon
- decriminalization of marijuana (pro, con, Colorado, medicinal, racist policing)
